The recent television show, "Survivor"
had millions tuning in to find out who the sole-survivor would be. San Pedro,
Ambergris Caye will experience a "survival-type" television show in the near
future, as Fox Television shoots a reality-based show on the island. This
"relationship show" will bring together four couples who are not married, nor
engaged but have been going out together for a period of time from a year to
five years. The couples, all US residents, ages 22-35
have each agreed to date other people to put their present relationship to the
test. Presently, these four couples have not made up their minds if they are
ready to take the plunge into marriage. They have agreed to date other people to
find out if the present partners are indeed their ideal soul mates and explore
their true inner feelings. Fox Television will be flying thirty individuals to
the island that match participant's descriptions of what their perfect date or
mate would be. Upon their arrival to San Pedro, the couples will be separated
and then surrounded by fifteen persons of the opposite sex for a period of
twelve days. During this time, the participants can date as many of the choices
as they wish. By the end of the twelve days, each individual from the original
four couples will have narrowed down their choices to a favorite person and by
the end of the show they will decide if they want to stay with their original
partner, or break-up and settle on the new love found in paradise. The crew of Fox Television, consisting of almost one
hundred people, are expected to be in San Pedro for a month. They will be
staying at Journey's End Resort and Sundiver Beach Resort. The cast will be made
up of 38 individuals who will be staying at Captain Morgan's Retreat and Mata
Chica Resort. Filming will commence on September
17 th at whatever location the
couples choose to go with their single dates. It is anticipated that over 56
trips from the island to the mainland will be experienced by the participants.
Mr. Tom Colamaria, Supervising Producer of the production, told the San Pedro Sun that
this show is all about fulfilling a person's fantasy. It is about relationships
and helping couples to make decisions that can lead them in the right direction
for the betterment of their lives. He concluded it is similar to a matchmaking
game. After a number of scouting trips to several
destinations, Ambergris Caye was selected because of its location, friendly
people and overwhelming beauty. Fox Television will air the show in January of
2001. On behalf of the people of San Pedro and "La Isla Bonita," welcome to the
crew and participants of Fox Television.
