| New ACTCC members meet with
Town Councilors, Area Representative and Minister Canton

The San Pedro Town Council and Area
Representative Patty Arceo held a meeting earlier this week to discuss traffic
concerns in San Pedro. The same meeting served to introduce the new Ambergris
Caye Traffic Control Committee members. Present for the meeting was Minister of
Works and Transportation, Hon. Henry Canton who, under his portfolio, is
responsible for overseeing traffic in Belize. Also present was Sergeant
Melbourne Alvarez, representing the San Pedro Police Department.
The delegation conducted a closed-door meeting to discuss
solutions to problems and amendments to traffic laws and regulations. Minister
Canton will now recommend the new committee and its members will be published in
the Belize Government Gazette. The new
Ambergris Caye Traffic Control Committee consists of the Commissioner of
Transport Department, Mr. Glen Arthurs, who will serve as the committee's
Chairman, Mr. Gerald Leslie ñ Vice Chairman, Mr. Wally Nuñez, Mr. Pedro Graniel
Sr., Mayor Alberto Nuñez, Traffic Officer Ralph Hulse and Miss Debbie
Spain. The San Pedro Town Clerk, Mr. Ruben Gonzalez, will serve as
secretary and Mr. Ralph Hulse as vice-secretary. This new committee will be
working diligently to ensure proper decisions are made with regard to traffic on
the island. The San Pedro Town Council and Area
Representative Patty Arceo thank the previous committee for giving their time
and ideas in solving the traffic problems in San Pedro. Outgoing committee
members include: Mrs. Amanda Syme, Mr. Manuel Contreras, Mr. Pedro Ayuso, Mr.
Hector Trejo and Mr. Miguel Briceño. The
newly appointed Ambergris Caye Traffic Control Committee promises to
periodically release information on their new plan of action.
