to enforce the traffic regulations in
San Pedro. The department policed the island for, and took possession of,
vehicles that were on the island without a valid permit. The confiscated
vehicles will be removed from the island at the owner's expense.
The Transport Department reported to this newspaper that
after careful studies only a few new vehicles (four or five) were granted
permission this year. The remainder of the vehicles that were allowed had a
replacement permit. A spokesperson for the San Pedro Traffic Department stated
that when a replacement permit is granted the vehicle being replaced is to be
taken immediately off of the island and not sold to another person or business
in San Pedro.
