Center staff in front of new building

Since Monday of
this week, the San Pedro Health Center has been operating from a brand new
building. Located just north of the High School, opposite Omar Guerrero's
residence, the purple and white building is easy to spot.
A new building was long overdue for the health center as their previous
location, downstairs of the town hall, was becoming too small. The new health
center boasts nine rooms to be used as follows: a reception and pharmacy, two
treatment and observation rooms, a doctor's consultation room, a maternal and
child care room, a Public Health Inspector's Office, two nurse's quarters and a
shared kitchen for nurses. Funding for this new project
came from the Ministry of Health. This Ministry will also be providing two
additional nurses and a pharmacist for the clinic. San Pedro's resident nurses,
Natalie Palen and Shawmela Kelly are all smiles with their new building and with
the news of more help coming in. In the words of the nurses and resident doctor
this new facility is "bigger and better." Another plus for the new center is
that the individual rooms provide more privacy for patient/nurse and
patient/doctor consultations. The San Pedro Health Center
telephone number remains the same, 2536. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from
8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
