| Principal Kay of SPRCS receives computers from
Lions members
|
Last Thursday, the San Pedro Lions Club
played Santa Claus as they handed out a hefty amount of equipment and furniture
to schools of the island. The large amount of goods - two full containers, came
from "Food for the Poor, Inc." in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The donation was an
effort from friends in the states who had heard about the devastation Hurricane
Keith caused to the island and decided to help "La Isla Bonita." Although
it took some time for the containers to arrive in San Pedro, the goods were
welcomed and certainly appreciated by the Lions Club and the schools.
The schools were each given a list of the containers'
items and returned a "wish list" before the distribution on Thursday.
Principals, teachers and students of the various schools departed with
truck-loads of machinery and furniture that will be put to good use. Included
were computers, printers, computer software and manuals,
student's desks and chairs, teacher's desks,
storage cabinets, miscellaneous office equipment, chalkboards and
more. Lion President Flora Ancona would like to take this
opportunity to make special mention of Caribbean Depot Freight Services for
their assistance and generosity in transporting the containers. She would also
like to thank Lion members and volunteers who helped unload and distribute the
goods. On behalf of the students, schools, the San Pedro
Lions Club and the entire community, we extend a heartfelt thank you to Food for
the Poor, Inc. for providing these wonderful gifts that will benefit the
children of San Pedro.
