San Pedro's most anticipated event, the International Costa Maya
Festival, has been tentatively scheduled for August 5th to the 8th. The
Festival Committee will be meeting very soon to polish up all the
details to make this year's premier Mundo Maya event one to remember.
According to our sources, one of the following well-known
entertainers, Pilar Montenegro or Pablo Montero, could be the
international superstar, headlining this year's event. The ex-Garibaldi
(Mexican singing group), Pilar Montenegro, has received rave reviews
for both her singing and acting careers. She has played lead roles in
Mexican soap operas such as "Acapulco Cuerpo y Alma," and her top hit
single "Quitame ese hombre," has placed her among the most popular
Latin singers.
For the ladies, Pablo Montero is sure to entertain with his gallant
appearance, amiable personality and romantic voice. He has also played
major roles in Mexican soap operas such as "Vivo por Elena," "Abrazame
muy fuerte," and most recently, "Rebecca." Pablo Montero has also
stolen the hearts of many fans with his Mariachi-style music and
romantic ballads such as "Hay otra en tu lugar." This singer/actor has
performed Mexican "Rancheras" (love ballads) as far away as China when
he accompanied Mexican President Vicente Fox to that country. The
trumpets also echoed in the White House last year when Pablo Montero
was invited to perform for US President George W. Bush Jr.
Once again, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and of
course, Belize are expected to be represented at this event which
brings together the cultural and musical diversity of the Mundo Maya
countries. Another much-anticipated feature of the festival is the ever-
glamorous Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant. Beautiful women from each of
the participating countries will vie for this prestigious title. Miss
Belize Leilah Pandy, (the first Belizean to capture this title) is the
current Reina de la Costa Maya. Unless other duties prevent her from
attending, Miss Pandy will be present at this four-day event.
The San Pedro Sun will publish more details of the 2004
International Costa Maya Festival as they become available.
