Ghouls, goblins, witches and devils made it out for Holiday Hotel’s 20th annual “Horrorween Bash” on Saturday night and what a “thriller” it was. With a laid out red carpet to welcome the ghostly guests of the night, it could not have been scripted better in Hollywood. This years ‘spooktacular’ brought out hundreds of well dressed, under dressed and semi-dressed party goers who were anticipating a big turn out.

During the night, a panel of judges consisting of Glen Gillett, Kainie Manuel and Marisa Guerrero had the ‘horror’ of selecting nine winners from out of the over hundred people that participated – the biggest Holiday bash so far! And the creepy creeps that won were: first prize of $1,000 cash went to “Dead fishing industry”; second place of $1,000 was split between “Bride and headless groom”, and “Dinner is served”. Scariest costume went to “Old bloody man”, whilst third place for funniest went to a phenomenal mimic of “Coconut Leo”. Most Elegant of the night went to “Dead Miss San Pedro”, whilst Manager’s favorite was “the winged demon”. The judges favorite pick was “the characters from Saw”, whilst Best Group went to “Celia ‘Azucar’ Cruz and her entourage”; second best group went to the comical acts of ‘The Flintstones”. Mr and Mrs Adrian Heusner made a selection that night and chose the “Yeye mummy and her one eyed hubby” as their favorite.

Every year for twenty years now, the Holiday Hotel throws one of the most awesome if not the best Halloween party in San Pedro. The setting can’t be beat; it’s spooky, loud, spacious and full of folks in inspired costumes. This year’s bash was a resounding ‘spooktacular’, until next year creeps! Even these hard times or rain could not stop the pooches of San Pedro from having a howlin’ good Halloween. Last Sunday, the Saga Humane Society held its annual Halloween Fundraiser that saw pets and their owners dressed up for the occasion at the BC’s Beach Bar and what a day of fun it was.

Among the whimsical canines and kitties that made a graceful appearance were a die hard metal pooch, a fairy, dog witches, pirate dogs, a scuba-dog and a husband and wife duo, it made for unending laughs and a radical time. All through the day, raffles were drawn, games were played, and a pet and children’s costume contest were held. ‘Best Kids Costume’ was won by “Geisha” who was played by Lindsay; ‘Cutest Kids Costume’ went to Isabella the ‘Fairy’, ‘Scariest Kids Costume’ went to Alex ‘the zombie’. Pooch prizes were given for ‘Best Pet Costume’ which was won by a unanimous decision “Yankee, the Scuba Dog’, ‘Cutest Pet Costume went to “Chainsaw, the Metallica Dog”, whilst ‘Scariest Pet Costume’ went to ‘Gypsy, the Pirate Dog.” The big raffle prize of a Skydive with video valued at $750 was won by Maya.

Yet again, the community came out in full-fledged support of the cause and the Saga Humane Society. A total of $5,600 was raised at the event and proceeds will go towards assisting the ongoing and ever growing operations of the Humane Society. The Saga Humane Society would like to thank all of the donors, sponsors, cooks, contestants, volunteers, musicians, organizers and most of all the entire community for the incredible level of support shown at this past Sunday’s Halloween Fundraiser at BC’s Beach Bar & Grill. A special thank you to the staff of BC’s for setting up and tearing down the event and the community of San Pedro in a whole.
