

Bonanza Airlines Opens New Belize Routes

Bonanza Aerolineas, based in Merida, started new routes servicing Belize on
Thursday, December 12th. Martin Trozzo, Bonanza's Marketing Director,
discussed their new venture at a lunch held at Elvi's Kitchen after the
maiden flight. Bonanza, described by Mr. Trozzo as the "The Regional Airline
of the Maya World", is now offering a number of flights connecting the
Yucatan and Quintana Roo to Belize. Thursday's first flight was from Merida
to Belize City and then to San Pedro. The passengers were Bonanza officials
and members of the Merida tour operator community on a familiarization trip.
At the same time the Mexican delegation was visiting San Pedro, a number of
Belizeans in the travel business were visiting Palenque on Bonanza's first
flight there from Belize.
Bonanza is not flying to San Pedro directly - they have made an
arrangement with Island Air for the International/San Pedro leg of one of
Bonanza's tour packages. Amigo Travel is their local representative. A one
day tour to Belize from Merida to San Pedro , a trip to Hol Chan and return
the same day to Merida. The cost? $270 U.S. A one day tour to Palenque from
Belize City is also offered at a cost of $199.00 U.S.
Flights from Cancun are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. at
a cost of $148 U.S.
Bonanza is utilizing 19 passenger Grumann twin engine airplanes for the
flights. The airplanes have a bathroom and.... flight attendants! The flight
time to Palenque is one hour and ten minutes, to Cancun, one hour.
